2015 Summer Camp Report
This year our annual Summer Camp received a huge number of campers, so we had a lot of planning to do to make sure that we could keep almost 50 expected campers busy for 5 days!
We had many activities planned around the campsite, including basketball, bike-riding, loom-bands, mask-making, and movies! Our theme for this camp was ‘superheroes’, so we also took part in some themed activities such as “cape making”, and working together to create banners for our super hero teams! One of the favourite activities around camp was using ‘hama’ beads to create mini-superheroes – and we all love the Elsa (from Frozen) that one of our campers made!
Once again we were incredibly lucky to experience at day in Goolwa with the Centennial Park and Goolwa Sea Scouts, who ran some exciting activities for us on the water! We were taken out on some of the speedboats, and sailing boats, and our campers were even able to take turns steering the boat, or helping to change the sails! Other activities were canoeing, where each of our campers got to work as a team to row and steer their canoe, and paddling on rafts that we made ourselves (with some expert help from the scouts of course).
We had a few nervous campers, as most of our kids had never done these activities before, but with the help of the Scouts and our leaders, everybody got involved and we had an excellent day! We’re so honoured to have the invaluable support of the Sea Scouts for our program, and all of our campers were incredibly excited about the opportunity to have a day on the river with them!
We were also able to spend a day in Horseshoe Bay with Encounter Water Sports, thanks to the owner/operator (and our excellent campsite manager), Andy Davoren, as well as his assistants. Although the surf was a bit too strong for swimming, everyone had a chance to learn some new surfing skills, and take part in a beach themed scavenger hunt!
As always, our camp couldn’t have been such a success without the support of a huge number of people involved.
Thank you so much to all of our new and returned leaders, to John Hooper and the Sea Scouts, Andy Davoren and Encounter Water Sports, Genesis Tour and Charter, and Karen and the catering crew from Fudge Fairy!
