2015 Winter Camp Report
Once again, the Toc H Camping Program has had a successful weekend at our Victor Harbor site! Our Winter Camp hosted 19 children, with a great bunch of leaders!
We arrived on Friday, July 10th, and after a bit of time getting acquainted, and a nice hot lunch on the deck, we spent some free time around the campsite! In the late afternoon, our groups started some activity rotations – playing some sport, and making dreamcatchers and ‘shower jellies’! After that we had some group games outside on the lawn, and even fitting in some music before dinner! After dinner we had some marshmallows toasted over the bonfire, before relaxing with a movie and quiet activities inside.
On Saturday we got up early, and after some breakfast we had a bit of free time before heading into Victor Harbor for an adventure! We had a great time at the playground before a big treat – going to the cinema! For lunch we headed back to the campsite, and again, spent the afternoon with some more activity rotations, making snowglobes, funny face biscuits, and trying some animal theatre! After a delicious dinner of butter chicken and vegetables, we had an awesome time making fresh damper! We ended the night with some dancing competitions and pom-pom making.
Our last day on camp started in just the right way, with a breakfast of our homemade damper, and some yummy pancakes! After a quick pack up of the dorms and some free time, we played some games in the hall. Our last activity for the camp was a huge treasure hunt all around the campsite, before we gathered together in the hall to collect our crafts, and head out to the bus!
This camp was a great opportunity for our kids, but also for some of our leaders to take on new roles! Congratulations to Aaron, Jim, and Jess C. for being our group leaders, and to Jesse, Tam, Matt, Jess C., Patrick, Claire, and Taylor for running so many of our great activities! We also want to send a huge thank you to our first time leaders – Sangita Rani, Tom Gaffney, Alice Ramsey, and Karlee Cook, and our returning leaders, Jess Yeilds, Taylor Petty, Jess Cardellini, Niki Ahluwalia, Jim de Gregorio, Aaron Desmet, Jesse Twartz, Tam Brain, and Claire Langsford. You were all incredible, and we appreciate all of your support for the camps.
Thank you again to Annette Hurley, for your incredible catering, and to Genesis Tour and Charter for providing the transport for our campers! And finally, a big thank you to our Directors of Camping, Dan Roberts and Patrick Korbel, and my fellow coordinator Matt Cooper, for your work in running our camping program.
Looking forward to next time,
[Thank you to all the leaders, but especially Jess H. and Matt, for running Winter Camp! It is great to know that the camps are in such good hands and that we have an extraordinarily capable and enthusiastic team of leaders. Pat and Dan, Directors of Youth Services.]
